The Monkey’s Raincoat is a short book, only pages long, and a fast-&-easy read. It takes a few pages to get going, but that’s to be expected in any Book One of a series, since the author has to introduce the setting (the greater Los Angeles area) and the recurring characters. Once that’s taken care of here, the pacing picks up nicely.   Praise for The Monkey's Raincoat “Outstanding characters, tight plot, and scintillating prose style This fast-paced story speeds Elvis Cole to a chilling, heart-stopping ending.”—Mystery Scene “Is Bob Crais good?/5().

Interestingly, Crais says on his website that if he were to recommend any book as a place to start LA Requiem, his eighth book, is the one he’d like people to read first. The Monkey’s Raincoat is definitely the work of a rookie novelist: uneven prose style, a tendency to indulge in sophomoric humor, formulaic basic plot, cookie cutter.

This book, "Money's Raincoat" is the first in the Elvis Cole series by Robert Crais, originally published inbut still very current. I'm hooked on this series now and glad to be starting at the beginning.
